- 1. Mission of Organization: The mission of the Orland Volunteer Fire Department is to protect the citizens and property of Orland. We provide fire suppression, medical services, multidiscipline rescue and public service. We have been serving the community of Orland for over 107 years. We continue to remain an all volunteer department thanks to generous donations from foundations like the Barceloux-Tibessart and the citizens of our community.
- 2. Description of Project: Our project goal is to purchase a Hurst battery powered hydraulic cutter and spreader. Commonly known as the “Jaws of Life”. Extrication technology has changed greatly and our hydraulic system is out of date and cannot effectively and efficiently extricate accident victims. Due to car manufacturer design changes and their use of higher strength metals it is difficult for us to extricate victims quickly with our current hydraulic extrication tools. Time is critical when victims are trapped.
- 3. Explain how this project benefits the in and around the community of Orland.: The community benefits greatly from the purchase. We need to extricate victims rapidly from vehicle accidents. The Jaws of Life spreaders and cutters are able to efficiently extricate patients, decreasing the transport time to the hospital. We all benefit.
- 4. Project expenditures including all materials, labor, fees (upload Word, PDF, or Excel): Hurst SP777E2 Quote (05-13-18-03-40-46).pdf (67 kB)
- Bids and any other supporting documents.: BT 2018 Quote (05-13-18-03-40-46).pdf (67 kB)
- 5. What sources other than the Foundation are available to fund the project:: The Orland Volunteer Fire Department understands that funding for the entire project might not be possible in one year. We will use funds from our annual spaghetti feed to cover any unmet funding for the extrication tools. The minimum amount requested pays for half on the battery powered spreader. If funding is available for both tools we will be using our spaghetti feed donations for tool mounts, accessories and training.
- 6. How shall the grant be recognized by your organization? (newspaper, thank you note, plaque, etc.): We have continuously shown our appreciation for the generosity of the Barceloux-Tibessart Foundation grant through press releases, social media and throughout the town via word-of-mouth. We look forward to having the award ceremony at our fire training facility this year to show you our progress with fire training facility. Thank you very much for your consideration of our project. On behalf of the Orland Volunteer Firefighters, thanks again.
